PhyNexus, Inc. was founded in May, 2002 by Douglas Gjerde, PhD (PhyNexus' CEO). In 1997, Gjerde was a founder of Transgenomic, Inc. Transgenomic's business plan was to develop and sell state-of-the-art sample separation and processing tools for DNA and RNA, where the core technology was provided through acquisition of Sarasep, originally founded by Gjerde in 1990. This ultimately led to Transgenomic's $70M IPO in June, 2000. Before founding Sarasep, Gjerde worked for large and small technology companies, including Exxon Research, Wescan Instruments and Alltech Technologies.
Other PhyNexus key management includes Tiffany Nguyen, JD (PhyNexus' Vice President of Corporate Affairs) and Mark Abel (PhyNexus' Director of Manufacturing Operations). Nguyen holds 10 years of legal, corporate, human resources, employment, and intellectual property experience. Prior to joining PhyNexus, she was an Intellectual Property Attorney at Transgenomic, Inc. and involved with patents, trademarks, contracts, and project management. She has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1997. Abel brings over 15 years of production and operations management and technical experience to PhyNexus. Most recently, he managed Apple Computer's global supply base for input devices. Prior to that, he created and managed the Technical Operations team at MAYAN Networks (a carrier-class telecommunications equipment manufacturer).
